I'm seriously thinking of going Paleo.
If you Google 'What is the Paleo diet?', you get this: "Paleo diet: a diet based on the types of foods presumed to have been eaten by early humans, consisting chiefly of meat, fish, vegetables, and fruit, and excluding dairy or grain products and processed food."
According to nom nom paleo (http://nomnompaleo.com), the Paleo diet "is based on the notion that for optimal health, modern humans should go back to eating real, whole unprocessed foods that are more healthful than harmful to our bodies."
Sounds good.
I have a cousin, who did NOT need to loose weight, but since going Paleo, she's lost weight and she boasts all the time on how good she feels. I noticed a Facebook post from her over the weekend that she ate out & soon felt "tired, full, bloated, sluggish, sick, and a tad bit irritable."
My brother and sister-in-law started doing the Paleo thing too. My brother says he does "Paleo-light"; there really isn't such a thing. My sis-in-law said she's lost weight and hasn't worked out since before Christmas last year & has gone from a 30" pants to a 27" pants. She's got way more will-power than either my brother or I do. I WISH I could fit into a size 30" pants. Oh, the glory days. She did confess to me that she eats peanut M & M's when she's working, so maybe there's hope for me after all.
I'm thinking of doing it for the health benefits & to lose weight. I'm so over being fat. I really want to be the thin girl I was before I had kids. I know I'm never going to be skinny, and I'm ok with that, but thin, even thinner than I am now.....I'll take that.
I have some issues with the Paleo thing though. To me, if it grows naturally, it should be good for you. I get not eating the processed junk food, even the breads & pasta. And I find it funny that you can eat eggs, from a chicken - yet chickens weren't around when the cavemen were. And I don't understand how you can have bacon & ham --aren't those processed?? I have a hard time not eating veggies I like, such as corn & potatoes, especially since I am so picky when it comes to food. My sis-in-law told me to try sweet potatoes instead of white and to just eat what I like, but in moderation. I can do that too. I also don't get the not eating beans thing - they are natural too. I can probably do without them since I don't eat a lot of them anyway, but having no beans in chili is going to be weird to get used to. The one HUGE drawback for me is no dairy. We go through a lot of dairy in my house. The kids drink a lot of milk too, but I can go without that. No sour cream on baked potatoes? I guess. No yogurt? No cream cheese? Ugh - ok. But no cheese? Have you heard of Mexican food without cheese? Yeah, me either. Gosh that's going to be hard. I'm sure my head will thank me (too much cheese triggers my migraines).
The one thing that's holding me back right now is the cost of eating healthy. Fruits & veggies can be so expensive. And, with 2 growing teenagers in my house, one of which is a bottomless pit of a teenage boy who eats everything in sight, keeping fruits & veggies I like is hard to do, because 9 times out of 10, it's the same stuff they like.
I've got to figure out a way to do this. I have great intentions. I've done research. I've talked my man into doing it too (not too difficult seeing as he wants to live off the land anyway). I've found recipes on Pinterest that look good, so I think I'll start there. If anyone has any good ideas on how to jump into Paleo, please let me know.
In the meantime, wish me luck!
